Forensics Experience
Dr. Malcolm Lewis is a consulting engineer who over the past decade has provided forensic services in more than 1000 construction related cases. He specializes in mechanical, electrical, and energy systems for buildings and industrial processes, including construction defects.
Dr. Lewis has over 35 years' experience in the engineering design, analysis, and construction observation of mechanical and electrical systems of buildings. Registered in Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical engineering, he brings a broad perspective to the resolution of facilities-related disputes.
Dr. Lewis combines a knowledge of current practices with a broad theoretical understanding of building systems. His hands-on skill in the science of design has given him a command of the issues involved in causation, responsibility and remediation of most construction-related failures.
As a peer reviewer for numerous engineering projects throughout the United States and abroad, Dr. Lewis also brings an insightful perspective to design-related claims and contract disputes.
Known internationally for his expertise in the design of energy-efficient buildings, Dr. Lewis has been the Engineer of Record for commercial, institutional, residential and industrial construction projects totaling over 20 million square feet. Having spent five years managing product engineering for one of the largest homebuilding firms in the U.S., Dr. Lewis brings particular expertise to product defect litigation.
Cases he has handled include issues of mechanical systems (air conditioning, heating, ventilation), indoor environmental quality (indoor air quality, mold & moisture, thermal comfort), plumbing systems (corrosion, leakage, noise), fire protection systems (fire sprinklers, fire alarm), electrical systems (power supply, lighting), and energy systems (cogeneration, solar energy).
