Forensic Experience

Mr. Busan's work as a forensic consultant is based on more than 20 years' experience as project design engineer in design of HVAC and plumbing systems for a wide variety of projects in all phases of design through construction management. In over 300 forensics cases Mr. Busan has inspected and investigated conditions and prepared and analyzed databases related to construction defects. Mr. Busan has also prepared and delivered defect presentations as well as technical reports of findings including scope of repair and cost estimates. Mr. Busan has participated in numerous mediation sessions and has been responsible for coordinating action items and events with client attorneys.

Representative Forensic Projects

Residential Complexes (Townhomes & Condominiums) and Single Family Homes
Mr. Busan has investigated HVAC and plumbing systems on 1000's of dwelling units in residential complexes including inspections of plumbing fixtures, hot water heaters, waste and water piping; evaluations of heating and air conditioning system installations including piping and ductwork; and samples for destructive testing. He has prepared reports of case findings, and has participated in litigation mediation and testified at arbitration. In cases involving single family homes Mr. Busan has also taken part in expert exchange meetings and mediation sessions.

Universities and K-12 School Campuses
Mr. Busan has investigated and prepared construction defect analysis by performing site observations and reviewed design and contract documents for mechanical systems at various educational institutions.

Medical Facilities
System design analyses were performed by Mr. Busan on HVAC ductwork related to improper air distribution, including design evaluation.

Industrial Facilities
Mr. Busan performed construction defect analysis (including evaluation of change order costs) for the design and installation of mechanical systems.

Representative Design Experience

"Energy Showcase" Bldg 850, Naval Construction Battalion Center, Port Hueneme, CA
Remodel of the existing building 850, developed as a Navy Energy Showcase facility. The project included the implementation of a number of energy-efficient technologies, including solar water heating, gray water recovery and high efficiency HVAC systems.

Decentralization of Steam Heating, Naval Construction Battalion Center, Port Hueneme, CA
Design to convert heating systems from central plant to individual satellite, gas-fired equipment.

Design for several Home Depot stores, including construction documentation and administration.

Design of mechanical and plumbing systems.
