Forensics Experience

With more than 30 years of professional experience in engineering design, operations and forensics, Mr. Broz is skilled in assisting counsel on a broad range of cases. His activities include forensic investigations, serving as consulting expert, developing expert reports, and testimony at deposition and trial. Case types include construction defect, personal injury, professional liability, toxic tort, and product defect.

Representative Forensic Projects

Lee v. Park- Casualty and Product Defect
Retained by Plaintiff's attorney in a case involving water damage to a condominium from a fire sprinkler system. Opined on product defect allegations for sprinkler head. Testified at trial in Los Angeles Superior Court.

Bell v. Lozano- Property Dispute
Retained by Plaintiff's counsel in a property dispute between neighbors in a condominium building. Defendant had demolished Plaintiff's heating and air conditioning system in the course of a dispute over easements and common areas. Conducted site investigations and provided opinion on cost and feasibility of various re-installation options. Testified at deposition, and at trial in Los Angeles Superior Court.

City of Issaquah v. Roth Hill Engineering Partners- Professional Malpractic
Retained by defense attorney in a malpractice claim against a civil engineering firm. Project was a municipal water pumping station and transmission line. Analyzed claims regarding improper equipment sizing and inappropriate system design criteria. Testified at deposition, and at trial in King County Superior Court.

VECO Alaska v. AEG&T- Owner Dispute
Retained by Plaintiff VECO Alaska, lawsuit relative to engineer-procure-construct (EPC) contract for a large cogeneration facility. Analyzed the EPC contract and provided technical opinion on inappropriate basis of design imposed by the Defendant on Plaintiff's pipe stress analysis work. Testified at deposition in the Superior Court of Alaska.

Port of Seattle, Terminal 91, Oil Pipeline- Forensic Investigation
Forensic investigations were completed to determine cause of spill from a 10-inch subgrade petroleum line. Used finite-element pipe stress analysis to determine the cause to be inadequate rating on a flanged joint. Provided engineering support for re-preservation, corrosion prevention and restoration of line to full service. Subsequently retained to design an upgrade to the pipeline to ensure future integrity, which was successfully implemented.

Pacific Circuits- Fire Case
Retained by agent for insurance company to assess damage caused by an explosion at a printed circuit board manufacturing plant. Conducted site investigation, reviewed invoices for emergency repairs and prepared independent cost analysis for mechanical repairs to the facility.

Whatcom County v. KMD Architects et al- Professional Malpractice
Construction cost overrun due to defective construction documents. Provided expert witness services on behalf of Plaintiff including assessment of construction documents, project communications and change orders. Prepared exhibits for mediation.
