The U.S. Green Building Council presented Colorado's Governor Bill Ritter with an award for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Existing Buildings (LEED EB) for the State Capitol in a ceremony on Thursday, October 16, 2008.
CTG Energetics consulted on this project and helped achieve the certification by providing expertise on a variety of criteria, including energy efficiency, water consumption, green cleaning, lighting and plumbing fixtures, and site management.
Governor Ritter praised the efforts of everyone involved in the four-year effort, stating "These designations recognize and independently confirm that a big part of Colorado's New Energy Economy is about government leading by example."
Colorado's 113-year old state capitol is the first in the United States to receive a LEED distinction. CTG is also currently consulting with the operations and maintenance staff at the Governor's Residence which is also under consideration for LEED certification.
